About Makimoto Port Macquarie

Makimoto Port Macquarie is one of those places you end up recommending to friends after just one visit, especially if Japanese food sits firmly in your comfort zone or happens to be your latest craving. Set right in the heart of town at 2/22 Horton St, Port Macquarie NSW 2444, this Japanese restaurant strikes a nice balance between relaxed and intentional, which makes it easy to pop in casually or plan a proper sit-down meal. From the moment you walk through the door, the vibe feels modern yet welcoming, with a menu that’s clearly designed to suit different moods, schedules, and appetites. Whether you’re stopping by for dine-in, grabbing takeaway on the way home, or ordering delivery for a quiet night in, Makimoto Port Macquarie fits naturally into everyday routines. The food leans into clean flavors and thoughtful presentation, offering small plates that are perfect for sharing as well as more filling options that work just as well on their own. Vegan and vegetarian options are part of the lineup, which makes group ordering far easier, while late-night food adds extra appeal when most nearby kitchens have already closed. Drinks are treated with the same care as the food, with beer, wine, cocktails, and spirits available to pair with whatever’s on the table. If you’re planning something a bit more personal, the private dining room adds flexibility, while outdoor seating offers a more laid-back way to enjoy the atmosphere. Makimoto Port Macquarie comes across as a place built for repeat visits, supporting quick lunches, relaxed dinners, and spontaneous catch-ups, all backed by service options that match how people actually like to dine today.

We ended up having a really pleasant evening at Maki Moto. We were initially disappointed we couldn’t get into Ichi because we hadn’t booked, so we decided to walk over to Maki Moto instead — and it turned out to be the perfect choice. Great Japanese atmosphere, genuinely friendly staff, and delicious food. Special shout-out to the bartender who served us at the bar — always smiling and made the experience even better. Highly recommend.

Absolutely beautiful food! Not sure why it’s got the lowest rating of Japanese restaurants in Port as all the food was perfectly delicious. Highly recommend. Saturday lunch & it was packed, had to wait for a table for good reason.

Almost everytime we go to Port, we'll have bento for lunch in makimoto. I always order the same. Chicken teriyaki bento. I'm soo in love with their chicken teriyaki. I know it tastes a bit over powering, but I can't just stop eating it they're much better in bento box as they're cook fresh other than having it in sushi. It's just that I tried unagi before, but it has some bones in it, so I still prefer the chicken teriyaki. Tempura is really nice too. One more thing, sometimes you have to reserve first because they're such a busy restaurant.

I came to a Japanese restaurant because I wanted to eat sushi, and the sushi was really delicious. The fish was fresh and the plating came out well that made me crave it, so I was satisfied. The draft beer was cool and delicious. If I visit the port again, I would like to go there again.

Amazing fresh food. Lovely customer service and inside has a beautiful atmosphere. No one rushing, noise level was great and it was clean. I visit Port Macquarie often and this is the first time I dined in at Makimoto. I almost got takeaway because there’s an outside shop of Makimoto on the corner that almost tricked me, dine in is next door.

We arrived in Port Macquarie at night. after checking in at the hotel, we immediately ate at this restaurant. The choices are very many and varied, from sushi, sashimi, ramen, and to rice. All the tastes of what I ordered are also quite good. The price is not as expensive as in big cities. The service is also very friendly and fast. Don't worry about car parking, it's across the street.

Had such a lovely time here. The nigiri was seriously amazing the fish was so fresh it practically melted, and the rice had that perfect balance of flavour and texture. You can tell there’s real care in how everything’s made. The vibe was relaxed but still felt special, and the staff were super friendly without being over the top. The cocktail was absolutely perfect honestly felt like something you’d get at a three-star spot. Easily one of my new favourite places for Japanese. Can’t wait to come back.
